I got my proof for Contagious yesterday. I cannot express how awesome it is to hold my own book in my hands! And being able to take a real copy of it around with me! :) I'm hard at work on the second book, Deathly Contagious right now. I really can't say enough good things about this trilogy. And yes, of course I would say good things because I'm the author, but really, they are just good books. I love my characters, love their interactions and development and the way the plot twists.

But my favorite thing is Orissa. For those that haven't read the book, Orissa is the main character. Basically, she's a bad ass. I'm so sick of books/movies/whatever with weak girls who depend on a guy and can't function without him. And I hate how creepy, stalker-ish, borderline personality disorder traits are turned romantic. Breaking or sneaking in to watch someone sleep-how is that NOT psychotic? Breaking a car so the girl is forced to stay and 'hang out' with the step away from a Criminal Minds episode. And don't even get me started on guys who freak out, scream, yell and break things when the girl decides she wants to leave. That is NOT romantic. That is aggressive, possessive behavior and is NOT healthy!

And no, I'm not thinking of just one book, I've read many others. We are in the day and age where females are trying to be seen as equals. We push that females and do anything and everything a male does. And then we get bestsellers where the girl is happy that she is 'at least pretty' because that's all she needs to get the guy she likes.

What about aspirations? What about dreams, college, a job, wanting to make something of yourself? It annoys the crap out of me. So, back to the original topic of this post: Orissa.

Orissa is very flawed. She is the most flawed character I've ever created, and I love her for it. We are flawed. (Another pet peeve of mine is perfect MCs...we are so not like that in real life.) Despite her flaws, Orissa doesn't let anything stop her. She doesn't give up. She doesn't sit back like a helpless damsel and let a guy do it. And, when facing zombies, it would be easier just to let someone else take care of things.  But she's a fighter, she's strong, she opinionated, and, I'll admit, at times a bitch :)

BUT, she's not weak.

Now, I'm not saying it's bad to show emotions or anything like that. Holding everything in is just as bad. But I don't want girls, esp young girls, thinking their life isn't complete without a man in it. Who hasn't been hurt by love? It may leave you broken in pieces all over the floor, but you pick yourself back up and go on with life. You don't forget to live.

That's is why I like my MCs to be strong willed females who don't put up with shit from anyone. They aren't stone hearted but they are capable. And I hope every girl knows that she can be too.

...and getting off the soap box now, I will post a section from Deathly Contagious in the near future. I'm having a 'zombie party' at a local bar, where people can dress like zombies or characters from the book. I'm very excited about it! :)

Well...Contagious is for sale!

I really cannot say enough good things about this book. :) And yes, of course I would say that since I wrote it, but in my humble opinion, it is just the best one I've written. Though, it had a lot of action and violence (but what zombie book doesn't?) so I can def see how it's not for everyone.

I'd love to write more about the book and how excited I am, but I got a Tdap vaccine yesterday and my arm hurts like a mofo and  don't want to type. (In case anyone is curious, it is required for clinicals for the nursing program...I'm not sick or anything.) Yes, I'm being a big baby, I know :)

Here's the pretty/creepy/zombie-fied cover:

Internet Addiction?

According to new research, there is such thing as an internet addiction. I won't get into the science of it, but basically it affects the brain like a legit addiction.

My husband thinks I not only have an internet addiction, but a computer addiction. I will admit that I am on my computer a lot, but 80% of that is me writing or editing. Lately, even I can't deny the fact I've been easily distracted. I'll write for a few minutes, then check my FB, email, twitter...then do it again in half an hour (or less..shh!)

Why do I do that? I have no idea. Right now, I'm supposed to be editing...I don't enjoy editing so I will do anything to put it off. I need to just get it done, I know. : P

Happy New Year!

Yes, I realize I'm four days late on this post. But, I've been busy editing my life away. Contagious is 100% done and now I'm just waiting for cover art before it can go on sale! :) And I finally am satisfied with the sequence of events in Beyond the Sea. I kept changing stuff and just didn't like it. And I shortened it by a whopping 27,000 words or something like that. I put almost all of them back in and it is just a much, much better story. I'm happy with it!

I wanted to post my resolutions. I have many, so I'll try to keep it short.

1.) Be more organized. I am seriously scatter brained. I need to get my shit together, esp since I'm going back to school to earn my second degree in nursing. I have to be uber on top of it to have time to do school work, write, go to work, be a wife/friend and take care of my animals.

2.) Be healthy. I'm the first to admit I'm lazy sometimes. I need to make myself run and work out. I enjoy it, so I don't understand why I put it off. I let myself get bogged down at my laptop editing, but that's not gonna cut it anymore. And I need to stop eating like crap. So exercise, eat healthy and get a decent amount of sleep.

3.) Edit a book once it's done. I wrote three books last year and didn't edit them until recently. It sucks having to go back and do all the editing at once. I don't like editing, I like writing. But it needs to be done. So I'm not going to procrastinate doing it anymore.

4.)Be neater. My husband will like this one. I have a habit of putting stuff down, forgetting about it and walking away. I put off doing my laundry until I have an overflowing pile and leave stuff in my car all the time. Not anymore! haha...we shall see how this goes!

5.)Get all A's. Enough said.

6.)Write at least 2 books. I really hope I  can do more by 2013, but with school, I will be happy with two. I'd like to have Reaper done in 2-3 months (and by done, I mean edited as well) and Deathly Contagious done in 2 months after that. I'm going to stick to making outlines for the books too, since it helps me write faster and keeps me organized.

7.)Sew. I got a sewing machine for my birthday and went all sew crazy for a while. Then I got distracted with writing and haven't made anything in a long time. I need to finish my RenFair dress and maybe make one more before August so I can have choices ;) I'm a nerd, I know.

8.)Read. I LOVE to write, but I also like to read. Lately, I've been so focused on my own books I haven't had a chance to read much of anything. After I finish a book, I'd like to read one I didn't write.

That's enough for now...I really want to work hard on accomplishing all of these!!
